Full Chrome Town Bicycle Project
Full details of the custom bicycle build project we have been undertaking through the spring of 2012
After the warm reception our custom porteur bicycle received online we decided to undertake another build to get us through the long dark British winter. This time our goal was to create a commuter bicycle built for everyday use. To satisfy our love of all things shiny, we managed to source ourselves another chrome Carlton frame from a local gentleman who had owned the bike from new.
A big thanks goes out to Nick @ East Coast Bicycles who had a big part to play in the build. He expertly replaced the damaged forks with a pair of 1970′s ‘NOS’ ones, fitted a new headset + bottom bracket & Pista crank set. He also lovingly polished and refurbished our original Wienmann calipers. His vast knowledge of all things bicycle related helped us massively in souring the majority of the parts for the bike and giving us the inspiration to complete the rest of the build ourselves. His shop for those of you who haven’t visited it is a must of any cycling enthusiast, ECB is one of the rare bicycle businesses left with plenty of soul.
After a long time of searching online, Matt @ Single Speed Components provided us with a great set of 27 1/4″ wheels which fitted the bike perfectly and gave us the original, period look we were trying to achieve. New 27″ wheels are virtually impossible to find especially with large flange track hubs, so the wheels Matt supplied were a great find. Our favourite Velo Orange dealer Jame @ Freshtripe provided us with our excellent postino handlebars which provide an excellent riding position for when you are speeding around town. As with our last build we have tried to add some nice finishing touches to the bike e.g. handmade leather handlebar tape and mounted Ingersoll pocket watch to name but a few.
